NEW CASH COMMENTARY FOR JANUARY 30TH, 2025

                                                                 CASH MICHAELS

                          YOU’VE BEEN SUCKERED AGAIN, AMERICA!

by Cash Michaels

As the old saying goes “Stop me if you’ve heard this one before,” but my old answer remains the same - “Why? You weren’t listening the first time!”

For if you were, you’d recall me telling you that you have absolutely nothing to fear from DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) policies, either in private industry or government, unless you’re a racist!

All DEI is is a commitment to the idea that the most qualified person, - regardless of color, ethnicity or gender - gets a fair opportunity to compete in any school or workplace in this society.

“When equal performance does not result in equal advancement, then something is wrong with the system, and our leaders have an obligation to fix it,” the late, but still great Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Colin Powell, a rare decent Republican and strong supporter of DEI, once argued.

That’s all it means. Please forgive me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that what America is supposed to be about? Giving everybody a “fair shot?” In a nation where a majority of the population will soon clock in as being nonwhite, seems to me that policy is the common sense thing to do. However, not everyone feels that way.

And one of those “not-everyones” happens to be the current president of the United States. You know, the clown we now have who is literally rushing to takeover the world before anyone else notices.

The ink hadn’t dried on the inauguration speech he really didn’t want to deliver (because it wasn’t tough enough he said later) before Trump made it clear that the days of diversity, equity and inclusion were over. America would become a bastion of meritocracy, where the color of anyone’s skin will not matter in the grand scheme of things.

Funny, we’ve heard that song and dance before. But then we take a look at various areas of leadership in our society, and see what amounts to silos of all-white male clubs.

And when that happens, instead of  dutifully fixing the problem, we shamefully politicize it, so that the problem gets worse, and isn’t really fixed until something happens none of us can really deny. Like, for example the police murder of George Floyd back in May 2020.

It took a citizen video of a Minneapolis police officer fatally torturing an unarmed African-American citizen in the street to wake many Americans up to the profound injustice many Black men suffer at the hands of some white police officers. Needless to say, if we in society truly had this racism thing beat, that would have never happened.

“George Floyd” (our universal shorthand for the tragedy) was powerful, and forced many in corporate America in particular to suddenly admit they weren’t doing all they could to provide an even playing field for people of color to compete in a bitterly divided nation.

And so, all of a sudden, DEI was created from the long faded spirit of the Republican-created affirmative action policy.

Of course the racists amongst us fought hard against DEI, but corporate America called the shots, and that was the direction we all went in.

Who was president then? Donald J. Trump, and there was nothing he could do to stop the DEI movement.

That was five years ago, and of course, America’s had many challenges since then. And who do Republicans fraudulently blame those problems on?

“Wokeness,” which is another way of saying “becoming racially and socially aware.”

Why pick on such an innocent thing? Because for Republicans, it stands in the way of obtaining more power!

When folks just go along to get along, they'll accept anything. But when people know the truth about their history and their society, they pay more attention to who is really doing what and why, and they usually don’t like it.

It’s one of the reasons why conservatives jump up and down about children learning anything about America’s racial history in school. They want ALL of our kids to be as dumb as nails so that they can’t use their brains to make connections, and corrections.

So Republicans start criticizing CRT (critical race theory) as something being taught to our kids to “make them hate white people” or “hate themselves.” Not true.

But the average American (and budding MAGA follower) is intellectually bashed in and lied to so much that they don’t even want to learn the truth of America’s racial history.

And anyone who wants to teach them that truth, like many in the media, is defined as “the enemy of the people.”

Here a conundrum - many MAGA folks say the enslavement of Africans by white Europeans was something that happened long before their time today, so they shouldn’t be held responsible for the continued impact of slavery on the Black community. A good argument against giving reparations, I’m told.

But then “George Floyd” happens, and corporate America suddenly rolls out the big bucks, policies and programs because it somehow feels responsible for what one police officer did to one Black man. Now you and I know that the change of corporate heart is really because the suits want to stay in the good graces of everybody so that we will continue to spend money hand over fist with them. But funny how all of a sudden, the powerful corporates discover humanity and responsibility when they think their pocket books are threatened.

No more, however. Trump says the days of diversity, equity and inclusion are over. The country doesn’t owe Americans of color a thing. Back to business as usual. Why? Because as far as Trump is concerned, we’re not interested in making America what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said it ought to be, a land where all men (and women) are created equal.

Naw, we want to “make America great again,” like before all of that civil rights stuff. We liked America when it was asleep to the truth about its racial history, because then, we didn’t have to deal with it. We had the “right” to discriminate against whom we wanted to, because this was our country!

That’s when people feared us across the globe and we could do whatever we wanted, to whomever we wanted to with the stroke of a pen, we believed.

Yes, those were the days, and guess what? Trump is trying to bring them back. Just ask Panama, Greenland and Canada. He’s playing imperialist here at home, and on the world stage.

Trump has even “rolled back a 60 year-old anti-discrimination executive order from Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson…(that) guts federal contract workers’ protections from discrimination on the basis of characteristics like race, religion, and sex,” according to the Business Insider.

Judy Conti, government affairs director of the National Employment Law Project, said "This is not a return to so-called 'meritocracy, Rather, it's an attempted return to the days when people of color, women, and other marginalized people lacked the tools to ensure that they were evaluated on their merits."

Trump’s White House has even refused to confirm whether or not it will continue to celebrate Black History Month, something Jimmy Carter started.

America is out of the DEI business now. What we’re into is playing everyone for suckers - making whites feel like they’re in charge again, and people of color made to understand that they either follow the rules of second-class citizenship, or else.

So now all DEI areas of the federal government will effectively be shut down, and the policy discontinued. All DEI employees (many of whom are probably Black or Hispanic) will eventually be let go.

And even our US military, once a proud promoter of DEI, is being forced to terminate that practice. Initially, it also terminated usage of training films featuring the historic Tuskegee Airmen, the all-Black Air Force squadron that shot down a hundred German planes while heroically escorting American bombers on their missions during World War II.

That dumbass order was rescinded after a great uproar, and rightfully so.

You could probably forget about learning anything about the Six Triple Eight, that now famous all-Black female Army battalion that moved millions of pieces of mail out to our troops to help boost morale during WWII, unless you have Netflix

You see learning, and sharing the pride in the stories of these heroes of color isn’t just a black thing, but an American thing. Because by doing that, all of us who salute that flag and serve in some capacity then understand that as a country, we truly represent GOD’s matrix for humanity, and how each one of us, regardless of our color, can contribute.

Indeed, should contribute.

If you know the stories of the Tuskegee Airmen, or the 6888, or the Buffalo Soldiers, or other all-Black military units during time of war, then you know that these brave men and women of color weren’t allowed to participate without being segregated, and then treated like crap. But because they all felt they had something to prove - namely that they loved their country when it refused to love them back - they served, and willingly gave their lives to prove that they and the people they left behind during war time belonged, and deserved full citizenship.

So it is an awful damn shame that today, in the face of that undeniable mutual history, that our nation has elected a clown who is doing all he can to keep white supremacy in business, and many of the people who support him are more than happy to go along with him.

Well, once again, folks, you’ve been suckered!

Trump tells you no more DEI, no more “unqualified” people at the wheel, meanwhile he’s putting nuts and squirrels in charge of some of the nation’s most important government agencies, with their only qualification being that they’re sworn to obey and worship him, before they serve the nation.

Folks argue that DEI (and affirmative action before it) doesn’t work. First of all, that’s not true. There are some brilliant professionals of color out there who are just taking it to the bank. Just ask the military, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Costco, and many, many others.

What do these blue ribbon companies know that Walmart, McDonald’s and Meta don’t?

But secondly, in those areas where there may be a problem, just fix what’s wrong, don’t trash the entire policy.

Yeah, America, you’ve been suckered again, alright. Hope you’re listening this time. I just pray that we all survive Trump’s DEI - Dumb, Egotistical and Ignorant - foolishness!

THE CASH STUFF FOR JANUARY 30TH, 2025

TRUMP’S WAR ON DEI REACHES NC

By Cash Michaels

Contributing writer

President Donald Trump’s war on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies has reached at least two agencies of North Carolina state government, but may not stop there.

State Auditor Dave Boliek and NC Labor Commissioner Luke Farley announced last week that their agencies will discontinue all internal DEI policies effective immediately. Farley stated that DEI will no longer be used as “a core measurement for evaluating NCDOL ( Dept. of Labor) employee performance.”

Instead, managers and supervisors were directed to “hire and evaluate employees based on merit and on their ability to fulfill our mission to protect the health, safety and well-being of North Carolinians.”

Farley added that his ultimate goal was to “ hire and retain qualified, professional individuals  who will provide excellent service to our state."

Republican State Auditor Boliek actually campaigned on removing DEI from state government, when he defeated Democratic incumbent Jessica Holmes. Boliek was responsible for the discontinuation of DEI at UNC-Chapel when he chaired the Trustee Board’s Finance Committee.

At the time, he charged that DEI was discriminatory, and unnecessarily cost the university money.

In his statement last week, Boliek said he also was conducting an internal review of his office to eliminate DEI from all policies, “…including any training, [and] performance requirements.”

Both Boliek and Farley announced their opposition to DEI just four days after Republican Donald Trump announced during his inaugural address that he was eliminating DEI from the federal government, and terminating all DEI hires from employment. He also urged all federal employments to expose any DEI employees they know of, or else face punishment themselves.

Here in North Carolina, despite the actions of Boliek and Farley, Gov. Josh Stein has expressed his support for DEI in state government.

AS BLACK HISTORY MONTH

BEGINS, TRUMP’S WAR ON DEI

COMES WITH IT

By Cash Michaels

Contributing writer

Black History Month begins February 1st on Saturday, but given Pres. Trump’s immediate assault on all things involving diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) after his Jan. 20th inauguration, even its future is in question now.

Beyond his executive order to scrap any and all policies involving DEI in the federal government, including all DEI hirings and programs designed to help communities of color in federal contracting, Trump’s DEI ban has already removed one piece of cherished African-American history - a training film featuring the Tuskegee Airmen.

Published reports say as a result of Trump’s war on DEI, the U.S. Air Force has discontinued training film that included lessons about the legendary Tuskegee Airmen and Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs). That means any references to the heralded  airmen who courageously and successfully escorted U.S. bombers on their missions during World War II during basic training are now removed.

The same for any references to the U.S. female pilots who took part during that war effort.

The nonprofit group, Tuskegee Airmen Inc. immediately expressed ther opposition to the new policy, saying in a statement, “We believe the content of these courses does not promote one category of service member or citizen over another, They are simply a part of American military history that all service members should be made aware of.”

The statement continued, “As a nonprofit organization, we are required to remain apolitical. The opinions we express today reflect our values as a military heritage organization, committed to telling a full and accurate history of all service members of World War II, regardless of race, gender or national origin.”

Also, recently just before Trump returned to office, Congress renamed a post office in the Brentwood section of Raleigh after deceased World War II U.S. Army veteran and Raleigh native Millie Dunn Veasey, who served with the all-black female 6888th battalion.

The 6888 was the Army’s central Post Office directory. Recently Netflix aired a movie about the battalion titled “The Six Triple Eight,” produced by Tyler Perry and starring actress Kerry Washington.

Before he left office, President Joe Biden signed the legislation, sponsored by Congresswoman Deborah Ross, to rename the post office in Raleigh after Veasey, who was also a graduate of St. Augustine’s University.

Millie Dunn Veasey died at age 100  in March 2018.

NC political and legal analyst Prof. Ire Joyner says Trump’s war on diversity, equity and inclusion is one that endangers the African-American community.

Articulating policy proposals do not change any existing laws; yet they do articulate what the Trump team is attempting to do during the next four years,” says Joyner, also a law professor at North Carolina Central University’s School Law in Durham.

“This articulation must be met with aggressive and dedicated responses from every African American and those organizations which are devoted to protecting Civil and Constitutional Rights. In that regard, African Americans must come together to fight against these Trump efforts. Litigation will have to be a large part of this struggle, but the enactment of protective legislation at the federal and state levels will have to also be pursued.”

Prof. Joyner continued, ”The proposed Trump policies must be challenged at every turn and our community and allies must rise to this challenge as we were able to do during the Civil Rights Movement. The Trump administration can not win these battles unless we (African Americans and our allies) fail to vigorously resist these efforts.”

THE NEW CASH COMMENTARY FOR THURSDAY, JAN. 23rd, 2025

                                                                   CASH MICHAELS

THE GOLDEN AGE OF…

                                           By Cash Michaels

Don’t you feel it, America, don’t you feel it?

As I understand it, as of 12:01 p.m. Monday, January 20th, America entered “the Golden Age.” We’re back in “capable” hands (and we all know from experience what those hands are capable of).

The tortuous life under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris is over, and the glorious living under Donald J. Trump and J.D. Vance is just beginning.

The golden age of America begins right now," Trump bellowed right after his inaugural swearing in. "From this day forward, our country will flourish."

He called it, “Liberation Day!”

Boy oh boy oh boy! You can’t get more hopeful than that! Trust me, I know the value and power of optimistic speech, and for 30 minutes, our new/old 47th POTUS left nothing to the imagination. According to his inaugural address, Americans are going to be swimming in wealth and good fortune sooner than later. You can bet on it (I wouldn’t, but some of YOU can)!

I’m shocked he didn’t promise to throw in a case of his famous Trump steaks to go with the deal, or maybe free tuition to Trump University.

And get this! Not only will we all be filthy rich, but in fact, we’ll be, how’d he say it, “the envy of the world.” Everything’s going to be alright. Wait and you’ll see.

You and I are just a signed-Executive-Order-away from an abundance of happiness “like you’ve never seen before.” Heck, who needs both houses of Congress anymore, even if they’re run by Republicans who’ve been suckered into believing they’re going to help run the country with Trump.

Same with the Supreme Court. The right-wing majority there has earned its place in history, thanks to ruling that no handcuffs in the world can touch President Convicted Felon Man’s wrists, because he can’t be held liable for breaking the law while in office.

I mean the Congress, the courts, and now he’s promising to slap so many tariffs on other countries, he’ll have to create the Dept. of External Revenue just to make sure America is collecting all of the foreign money it’s owed.

And of course, all that tariff revenue coming to the United States is going to help drive the cost of energy down, along with a renewed vision towards energy independence that will drive the cost of groceries down too, he promises.

"My top priority will be to create a nation that is proud, prosperous and free," Trump bellowed as the inauguration crowd, including a couple of billionaires in the Capitol’s Rotunda, cheered.

Let’s not forget what issue most Americans hail Trump for the most - stopping the flood of illegal immigration at the Southern border. Trump has promised to keep all of the new “illegals” out, and show all of the ones already here the door.

Gee, I’m feeling exuberant already. I think he’s calling it “mass deportation.”

The highly skeptical among us however call it “mass inhumanity,” especially his vow to cancel the American birthright citizenship of constitutionally protected children of immigrants born here. 22 states and two cities are already suing Trump over this, as they should.

And all of you gender-ambiguous folks, listen up - Pres. Trump says no more, forget about it! Either you’re a man or a woman - nothing in between. Forget what the flag and the Constitution says about your freedom to be you as long as you’re not hurting anybody else. From now on, President Trump says if you wear a skirt and makeup, your name better not be Bob or Joe. He’s just not having that.

Ahhhhh, the Golden Age, can’t you feel it? No more diversity, equity or inclusion in the federal government, or anywhere else for that matter. I mean, if you want to get rid of woke-ism, if you want to cripple that white-people-hating CRT (critical race theory), then you’ve got to start somewhere, right?

From now on, America will be a meritocracy, no more of this seeking equality crap. No more federal contracts for minority businesspeople who can do the job, but somehow always found themselves locked out of the bidding process before affirmative action changed things. Now, under Trump, the rules go back to being unfair. Well aren't we fortunate?

There was more to Trump's blizzard of  "good" news.

How did Politico report it?

“From this moment on, America’s decline is over,” Trump said, promising to “very simply put America first,” relishing his having swept all seven swing states over Vice President Kamala Harris. He promised to end inflation, to “drill, baby, drill” for oil and gas, end subsidies for electric vehicles and eliminate genders besides male and female. He vowed to end diseases, wars and Panama’s control of the Panama Canal."

Damn Politico! You forgot to report he promised to walk on water, and multiply the fish and baskets of bread too!

There was so much more to Donald Trump’s inauguration speech that we could have applauded…come to find out it really wasn’t the inauguration speech he wanted to deliver.

Apparently his staff “sanitized” what Trump actually wanted to say, as not to scare everybody to death. How do we know this? Trump himself told us for 32 minutes during his second remarks of the day at the Capitol. That’s where there was no semblance of the Golden Age uttered.

Instead, that’s where the true Donald J. Trump muttered what he really wanted to say earlier.

His order to pardon at least 1500 convicted traitors who attacked their own nation’s US Capitol at his urging. 140 police officers were injured, five of whom eventually died. He also gave clemency to six of those rioters who attacked those officers.

Gee, wonder how the surviving Capitol police officers now feel about that? Betrayed by their country for reelecting this nut job?

By the way, he still insists that the 2020 election had been “stolen” from him.

Trump's hatred for the Congressional Jan. 6th Committee that nailed him for his actions and inactions during the Capitol insurrection is ever-present.

And that the “scales of justice will be rebalanced,” he promises, apparently to give convicted felons like himself more of an even shot at getting away with committing more crimes.

Don't forget his feeble attempt to blame former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for not calling in 10,000 National Guardsmen to quell the violence on Jan.6th on a day he otherwise calls "a day of love," even though she never had the authority. He did, but didn't.

Glad Nancy wasn't at his inauguration to hear that lie! She might have thrown a shoe at him.

There was so much more I won’t bore, or outrage you with, except that President Clown Show promised "My legacy will be as a peacemaker and unifier. That's what I want to be — a peacemaker and a unifier." Yeah, like he was during his first term.

And so, ladies and gentlemen, fellow citizens and MAGA suckers, begins the Golden Age …

…of More Lies and Ever-mounting Bullcrap!

That’s what Trump wants us to wallow in, and now his return to power gives him every opportunity to do so. And anyone who doesn’t like it runs the risk of prosecution, if not persecution, because neither this man nor his followers suffer honest people. He punishes perceived enemies.

I just hope Rev. Franklin Graham knows what he was praying for at the inauguration. I can’t say I’ve even heard a man of God pray that a proven criminal be more successful before.

Now that we have the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, openly giving Nazi salutes in public to celebrate his friend Trump’s electoral victory, we need to keep our eyes on things. "My legacy will be as a peacemaker and unifier," Trump says "That's what I want to be — a peacemaker and a unifier."

Not with the boldfaced lies you tell, Clown Show! Not hardly!

And Lord have mercy, Trump had the absolute gall to utter the following -

“I was saved by God to make America great again.”

Don’t get me wrong, maybe he was saved by God, but where is it written that the devil doesn’t save folks too for his own evil purposes, especially folks who are always up to no good? Besides, Trump wouldn't even place his tiny hand on the two Bibles wife Melania was holding during the oath of office.

Now why would such a "devout" man forget a little thing like that?

My sincere hope is that we survive this serpent before he truly craters the nation. And I sincerely pray that we find some way to democratically replace him before his “Golden Age of Lies and Ever-mounting Bullcrap” runs its course.

Our children deserve better! Their children deserve better. Hell, us old folks deserve better, before we go.

Saving our country…warts and all….there can be no greater mission now!

        No greater mission!
