A white Shelby police officer has been fired after a door camera video captured him last Friday repeatedly punching and brutalizing a black woman during a confrontation.

“While this incident does not reflect the values of the Shelby Police Department, it does reinforce the importance of holding ourselves to the highest standards of conduct,” Police Chief Brad Fraser said at a Saturday news conference, further calling the actions of the officer “disturbing and inappropriate.”

“As we move forward, our commitment to the city of Shelby remains unchanged: to protect our city with courage and serve our community with compassion,” Chief Frazier added.

Though Shelby police officials had not named the officer at first, public arrest records identify him as Karson Hyder. Hyder, 22, was terminated after an administrative review of the incident. Published reports state that he had been previously placed on administrative suspension. Hyder turned himself in Monday morning to the Cleveland County Detention Center, and was charged with assault inflicting serious injury.

The former Shelby police officer was released on $10,000 bond

The victim has been identified as 34-year old Cherrie Moore, who is seen being thrown to the ground by Hyder while she struggles with him and he begins pounding her. A photo of Ms. Moore later shows a bruised nose, swollen eye and bloody lips.

Shelby Police say Hyder and at least one other officer were conducting a criminal investigation when they encountered “a suspicious female in the area.” After an administrative review, charges of breaking and entering, resisting an officer and assaulting a government employee were dropped against Ms. Moore.

Ms. Moore was released Friday morning after posting a $10,000 bond, according to court records.

After the incident, protesters rallied outside of the Shelby Police Station as the door bell video went viral throughout the state and around the world.

Meanwhile, the results of the Shelby administrative review have been turned over to the State Bureau of Investigations “for an independent review of any criminal violations,” Chief Fraser said.

FORMER LT. GOV. ROBINSON

SUED FOR FILING FALSE

POLITICAL LAWSUIT

Former Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is being sued in Guilford County Superior Court for allegedly falsely suing a local Greensboro man during his 2024 Republican campaign for governor.

Louis Love Money, a Greensboro musician, filed his compliant on May 26th, alleging that Robinson falsely filed suit against him in 2024 when Robinson sued both Money and CNN for defamation, after the cable news network reported that Robinson frequented a porn site online calling himself “Black Nazi.”

Money was accused of alleging that Robinson used to visit a store he owned that featured pornography.

Robinson held press conferences declaring that he was being defamed by Money and CNN, and announced that he was suing them for $50 million, only to later drop that suit against both defendants.

Louis Money says in his complaint that because Robinson dropped the complaint when it became apparent that the pornography allegations were true, that led to abuse of the legal process and malicious prosecution. There was never a legal basis for Robinson to ever file a lawsuit against him, and that the only reason he did so was for political advantage during the campaign.

Robinson later admitted on a recent podcast interview that he did indulge in pornography during his younger years..

“The lawsuit was never truly about money or about any supposed deep-state conspiracy, artificial intelligence, or pornographic video allegedly purchased in the 1990s or early 2000s,” Money’s lawsuit states. “Instead, the lawsuit appears to have been political theater, using the court system as part of an election strategy.”

And because there was no truth to Robinson’s lawsuit, Money alleges that he was forced to incur “significant” legal costs to defend himself. Now, he seeks more than $25,000 in damages, along with attorneys’ fees and other punitive and compensatory relief from a jury.
