NOT YET, DEMOCRATS, NOT YET!

ATTENTION ALL DEMOCRATS! I understand the total glee that comes from reading or hearing most of the latest polls are showing that the pitiful Republicans, by any and every measure imaginable, are underwater with the American people for the November midterm elections, which has already started in some areas of the country (mail-in ballots have been available here in North Carolina since Sept. 4th, and must be returned to the Board of Elections Office by Nov. 3rd. No more grace period. You must be registered to vote by Oct. 9th, and early voting begins Oct. 15th to the Oct. 31st. And photo ID is required).
I’ve seen the polls, and fully understand why Dems are beyond giddy. But before you folks get in front of your skies, please allow me to caution you on some things. I come from the world of what goes up, invariably must come down. I’m not at all saying there’s no reason to feel confident about electoral victory come November.
What I am saying is we are in that golden period where there’s still enough time for anything to happen that could put a shadow on everything good and promising. What I’m also saying is Republicans are lying their behinds off trying to smear Democrats with everything short of the Jon Benet Ramsey murder. What we don’t need right now are clumsy Dems doing or saying anything that give the GOP an inroad into overcoming the polls.
Folks forget it was just two years ago when many of us felt that Vice Pres. Kamala Harris was in good shape in her election bid for the White House, when Trump and company then found enough junk to smear her with to pull out a win that we would all regret.
I know, I know, the midterms are different, but trust me, national Democratic leadership is not exactly beloved. People just don’t trust them. And it’s only because Trump and the Republicans in Congress are so dishonest and dysfunctional that folks are giving the Dems a serious look at all.
Let’s speed up the calendar here for a moment. Let’s say the midterms are over, Democrats clean house and take over both chambers of Congress, and the world is literally their oyster.
Will they have the discipline to restrain themselves enough to hold off going after Trump full-throttle before focusing on doing something to bring economic relief to the American people?
Dems must be fully engaged in solving the problems of the American people first, and put investigating Trump’s corruption secondary to that. In addition, they must be seen doing that and being committed to exactly that.
Please don’t get me wrong. Yes, I want Democrats to stop Trump’s racket and grift cold in its tracks. And where they find him continuing to break the law, stop him. Just don’t devote every waking moment to it. Defund the war so that oil and gasoline prices will drop. Get rid of his illegal tariffs so the cost of living comes back down to normal. Rebuild our international relationships, especially with Canada, so trade can get back to normal. In short, try to bring the America back we were comfortable with before Trump started messing around.
Of course, America was far from perfect before Trump 2.0, but it was an America we understood and appreciated.
If Democrats paid close attention to what the American people are telling them, they could do a lot of good, and that’s what Americans deserve. And if that happens, the prospects for the 2028 presidential elections might take care of themselves.
Anyway, whatever happens, none of it transpires unless you vote in the upcoming midterm elections to get the ball rolling. And if you do vote for the Democrats, make sure you’re willing to keep them accountable so that they understand that they are on a short leash here, and you want less mouth, and more action to make America a better place to live again.
Let’s make it happen, for all of us!
